EXCEL MFG., INC. HAS INVESTED OVER $1M IN SWISS TURNING MACHINES
Five years ago, a customer of ours approached Excel Mfg., Inc. to provide a cost-effective solution to allow them to produce their products in large volumes with very high-quality standards. We invested over one million dollars into Swiss turning machines with 5-axis milling capabilities in order to diversify our capabilities and meet our customer’s needs.
This equipment lends itself to high tolerances on turned diameters with an unusual length-to-diameter ratio. These machines also allowed Excel Mfg., Inc. to mill all the features required with only one work center. The addition of bar feeders that accommodate bars up to 12 feet in length ensures our ability to maintain “up” time and achieve high efficiency levels. This combination produces high volumes of complex components quickly, and efficiently.

THE BENEFITS OF SWISS TURNING
The secret of the Swiss machine’s success is in its design. With Swiss machines, the barstock spins and slides through a guide bushing. This provides a powerful point of support, regardless of workpiece length.
Our Swiss machines can produce long runs of small, complex parts faster and more efficiently than on traditional lathes, with the added benefit of freeing up other equipment to produce larger parts. Reach out to us the next time you’re looking for a shop to run small, high-tolerance parts in large numbers.
The primary advantages of Swiss machines come from both the guide bushing, the geometry, and the mechanics in the tool zone. Parts in Swiss machines deflect and vibrate less during machining than in traditional lathes. And since these machines are for the most part “compact” and the tools do not have to move very far, the chip-to-chip time from one tool to the next can be extremely short.
Additionally, a Swiss machine can produce complex parts using simultaneous operations and may be able to have various tools cutting at the same time. Since a Swiss machine can mill, drill, ream, and saw, secondary operations are often eliminated.
We are proud to manufacture our products 100% in the USA.
