WHAT IS A CNC GRINDING?

A CNC grinding machine functions by employing a rotating grinding wheel to delicately remove minute amounts of material from a workpiece. These machines are primarily utilized for finishing purposes.

CNC grinding is primarily focused on precise metal removal with a high-speed abrasive rotating wheel acting as the cutting tool. While the grinding wheel rotates in place, the workpiece is securely fastened to the machine and moves along the X-, Y-, or Z-axis. The number of passes required by the grinding wheel to achieve the desired finished dimensions varies depending on the shape and size of the workpiece.

Operating automatically with minimal intervention from a machinist or operator, a CNC grinding machine, or CNC grinder, follows pre-programmed instructions to deliver smooth surface finishes. This process reduces distortion and enhances the overall efficiency of the grinding process.
